In our seventh Street Traffic Recovery Report, we are sharing and analyzing data on post lockdown recovery in terms of the traffic of people in Week 22. In terms of general traffic around the cities analyzed, we are glad to say that Prague has definitely come back to normality, registering only a -1% of traffic for the second consecutive week. We are particularly happy to share this piece of information as we really hope that the path followed by Prague during the last 6 weeks could be copied by the other European cities analyzed. For now, the situation was still far from normality in most of the cities, although with positive and strong signs of recovery. Amsterdam was the city with a traffic level closest to Prague, scoring a -20% of traffic of people around the cities with respects of pre Covid-19 situation. Following not so far, we find Milan, Barcelona and Madrid, respectively registering -45%, -51% and -61%, with a solid increase of 15 pp on average in the last two weeks. The only city among the ones analyzed that remained very affected by the lockdown restrictions is London, whose traffic has kept swinging between a -92 and -93% for the last four weeks.
The overall recovery trend witnessed among cities concerned also the different sectors analyzed by Foot Analytics. Looking at public transports, the traffic of people in the high-speed train connecting Barcelona to Madrid saw a sharp improvement of 10pp in Madrid and 6pp in Barcelona, steeper than previous weeks. Traffic in the Barcelona Metro Service increased by 6pp as well, showing that also that fear of citizens about moving around the cities with public transports is slowly decreasing.
Finally, also in Food Markets in Barcelona the situation has been constantly improving for 6 weeks from now, with data from week 22 increasing by 4pp from previous week and registering a -24% with respects to pre Covid-19 scenario. Dwell time also decreased in line with previous weeks, even closer now to the situation before the pandemic.
Overall, the general growing trend of traffic recovery gives positive feelings for the weeks ahead. To see what will happen in the coming weeks, stay connected!
